At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. Boiling water produces steam which can power a train. The elementary staff is committed to operating at 212 degrees during the 2007-2008 school year in order to increase our results and move closer to becoming an exemplary campus.
• An enrichment period for grades K-4th allows students not requiring reading intervention to participate in UIL events and/or work on activities that challenge them in the areas of math, reading, and/or science.
• An intervention period has been added for 4th grade students who need additional practice in math and/or reading.
• An outdoor classroom sponsored by the Service Learning Grant will give students a place to study nature as well as add beauty to the campus.
• The district website has been expanded to allow teachers to work independently and/or as a group to better inform parents and the community of activities on the elementary campus.
• A fourth prekindergarten class has been added so every child in Hooks will have the opportunity to prepare for kindergarten.
• The Scott Foresman reading curriculum has been added to the prekindergarten curriculum to help prepare students to read.
• Handwriting Without Tears has also been added to the prekindergarten curriculum to give every student the foundation they need for good penmanship.
• Special education students who are mainstreamed in fourth grade have the opportunity to be co-taught by the general ed teacher as well as an inclusion teacher who has a special education certification.
• New language and reading readiness software has been purchased for special education and prekindergarten/kindergarten classes.
As we strive to go the extra mile to teach every student we ask our parents, grandparents, friends, and community to also turn up the heat to 212 degrees and help us to push forward to meet our goals for this school year.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
